Senior Backend Engineer, Data & Infrastructure Location: Remote (Global) 📌 Summary Our client, an early-stage startup, is building a product with a data collection engine at its core and a growing layer of pipelines and applied data science behind it. You'll own the backend and infrastructure side of that stack in Python: designing the systems that clean, model, and serve data at production scale. This is a foundational, founder-minded role. You'll be defining how things get built, not just implementing a spec someone else wrote. ✅ Requirements (Must-Haves) Excellent English communication skills. You will interact directly with clients and their engineering team. 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience, the majority of it in Python, including infrastructure and systems design work rather than primarily web/CRUD API development. At least one prior role specifically as a data scientist or data engineer, with hands-on experience building data pipelines and models against real production data. A track record of owning architecture and systems design decisions end to end, from early design through production operation, not just implementing someone else's spec. Comfortable in an early-stage environment where priorities and even the shape of the role are still being defined. Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes). ✅ Requirements (Nice-to-Haves) Experience as a founding engineer or early member of a startup's engineering team, building systems from zero to one. Experience with time-series or event data specifically, such as attribution modeling or forecasting. Exposure to Rust, especially in a data-collection or systems context, useful for collaborating with the adjacent core engineering team. Experience working in an Agentic Development environment (spec definition, AI agent delegation for code creation, human-in-the-loop review). Familiarity with Claude Code, Codex, or similar harnesses and AI Skills. 🌟 Bonus Points A track record of designing and owning a data platform from scratch. Open-source contributions to data or backend infrastructure tooling. Experience owning a system end to end, from data collection through to the shipped feature.
